Dear Parishioners,

Lately, I have been thinking and praying about the vocation of parents around me. Perhaps it is on my mind as I see the men and women of our parish helping their children begin the new school year. It might be that I have good memories of the lessons my father and mother taught me. I am motivated to praise God for the beauty of parents and to intercede for them in the challenges they face.

Pope Saint John Paul II, frequently admired the lives of parents. He drew attention to parents whom he canonized as saints. I remember reading one of St. John Paul II’s early encyclicals about Christ’s redemption. He made a point that parents are critically important to the work of Christ’s love. (paragraphs 20 and 21 of Redemptoris Hominis)

I, also, have been looking for ways to support moms and dads. Naturally, our parish school started classes this month. CCD registration for public school children is next weekend. Please see Patricia Deitering to set your children up for Saturday religious education. This week, we are also offering a Catholic Update insert in the bulletin. It is titled, “How to Raise Kids With Faith.” Please read it for yourselves and share it with family and friends. When you share it, there may be an opportunity to give those family or friends your support for living the Faith.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Father Patrick M. Crino Pastor
